August 2022

We're releasing two huge features in August that drastically simplify IoT deployments to help users of the Hark Platform achieve the value of IoT deployments quicker: Templatable device-deployments and the ability to create Sensors from asset properties, within seconds! We've also added brand new functionality to the Hark MQTT Cloud Broker!

Cloud Broker

Connection Issues Log

The new Connection Log area in our MQTT Cloud Broker is a great new addition to help Hark Platform users debug issues and see what is going on with their MQTT connections.

For each connection that has an issue, you'll be able to see what usernames a client is using, what topics they're using, and when they last communicated and more!

Analytics

Edit Gateway Names

When viewing a Gateway in Analytics, you can now edit the name of your Gateways. This is helpful for when Gateways have been named incorrectly, or a Gateway has been moved to another Location.

Root Hierarchy Dashboards

You can now set a default dashboard to show when a user inside your Organization navigates to the Hierarchy in Analytics. This is a great space to provide overview information for your hierarchy, and provide links or context to assets using the widgets available to any dashboard.

Templatable Adapter Deployments

In August we've once again made it easier for users of the Hark Platform to perform IoT deployments with our brand new templatable deployments! When configuring a device, such as a Modbus device, in the Hark Platform, you can now import templates and save your configuration as a template to be used later.

Saving a Modbus Register Template

Using templates is a fantastic way to get going with deploying devices, in the case of a Modbus device, you can setup Templates for each device model you're deploying. Define the registers and name each register, according to the devices datasheet and import your template later to speed up deploying your new device.

Importing a Template

If you want to manage these templates later, there's a brand new Templates area under Analytics. You can see all of your configured Templates, with the ability to create or edit a Template ready to be used later.

Viewing all Modbus Templates

You'll also see a collection of Hark Templates that we've defined to help you get up and running faster!

Create Sensors from Asset Properties

You can now create Sensors directly from Model Properties, allowing you to track your assets data over time in a much more simpler way than before! With your assets, or devices, modelled in the Hark Platform, Properties are used to see assets data in real-time. They can be temperatures, fault codes, any value or data that your device outputs.

Creating a Sensor from a Model Property

When viewing the a Model's Properties, you can create Sensors from them in just a few clicks. Select the Model Properties you'd like to make in to Sensors, configure their names and Sensor Types and click Create. In just a few clicks, you'll have a range of Sensors tracking your assets data, over time.

Creating Multiple Sensors from Model Properties

When viewing Model Properties, you can quickly see which Model Properties are being tracked over time by seeing which have the Sensor icon next to them. Clicking the Sensor icon will take you straight to the time series data for that Model Property for further analysis. You can also configure a Sensor using the Filter icon for those Model Properties that don't already have a Sensor configured.

Viewing which Model Properties have Sensors

We've also integrated the creation of Sensors directly in to the Adapter Discovery process for you to be able to create Sensors whilst configuring a new asset or device, to complete your device deployments in one intuitive flow.

Creating Sensors as part of the Adapter Discovery Flow

Finally, when viewing the Analytics Hierarchy, you can create a Sensor using any Create Sensor button. We've added a Model Property data source option to the same form you're used to, simply select a Model and a Property, and hit Create.

Creating Sensors using the Central Resource Creator

Any Sensors created from Model Properties have a new data source panel, and View Model button, to help you get back to the Model that created your Sensors, quickly!

Azure Event Hub Connector Support

Azure Event Hubs is a big data streaming platform and event ingestion service. It can receive and process millions of events per second. Data sent to an event hub can be transformed and stored by using any real-time analytics provider or batching/storage adapters.

We've added support for connecting the Hark Platform directly with Azure Event Hubs to ingress data from Event hubs or egress data out of the Hark Platform on to Azure Event Hubs. When creating a Connector, there is a brand new Azure Event Hub option.

Azure Event Hub Action Support

A brand new Azure Event Hub Action is available for use in your Automations as of August. You can stream your data from the Hark Platform through an Event Hub using the range of triggers we provide already, with a payload that you define.

No when we receive a new metric for your asset, you can stream that data directly through to your Event Hubs. You could event calculate summaries on a schedule, and send those through too!
