Optimized Site Energy Generation, Storage & Consumption.

Maximize Self Consumption

Maximize self consumption is an energy control strategy that prioritizes the use of solar energy generated on-site. This approach directs solar power to meet site energy demand in real time, using energy scheduling, BESS dispatch, and shifting loads to align with production times and consumption demand.

What is Maximize Self Consumption?

Maximize Self Consumption is a control solution that dynamically adjusts the operation of onsite renewable generation (e.g., Solar PV) and optional flexible loads or battery storage to prioritize using as much self-generated energy onsite as possible. By reducing exported energy and maximizing internal consumption, it lowers energy costs, reduces reliance on grid imports, and enhances the return on investment of the renewable system.

How Does Maximize Self Consumption Work?

The ONE Controller continuously monitors onsite generation, site load, and storage. It uses real-time measurements to ensure that as much self-generated energy as possible is consumed onsite. If site load is low relative to generation, charge connected BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) to absorb excess energy. Only when generation exceeds onsite consumption does it begin to curtail the generation either to export limits or load.

Example Use Case of Maximize Self Consumption

The Site:

250 kWp solar PV on a manufacturing facility

The Challenge:

Frequent periods of low daytime load cause solar export, missing the opportunity to offset grid electricity costs

The Solution:

The ONE Controller dynamically adjusts HVAC systems and schedules EV charging to coincide with solar peaks, maximizing onsite consumption. BESS integration enables excess energy storage for later use during evening peaks, further improving self-consumption ratio.
